The Art O Neill Challenge route can be extremely cold and unforgiving in January. We place the utmost importance on having the right gear and there is a mandatory kit list (below). We will do kit checks on the night of the challenge and participants will not be allowed to start unless they have all the right kit. We try and be as fair as possible with the mountain related safety gear only being picked up from participants Dropbags at Checkpoint 1 once the road section is complete. Our sponsors, Great Outdoors in Dublin are offering a 10% discount to Art O Neill Challengers. Some of the staff have first hand experience of the Art O Neill event and will give knowledgeable advice on what works and what doesn't. If you are unclear about any item on the gear list or any aspect in relation to preparation for the event please send a mail via the 'Conatct' page.
NEW! Thanks to the Great Outdoors who have kindly provided us with a link for each item on the kit list. No excuse for not being well prepared! Some last minute items may be available from the Great Outdoors Mobile Shop at Dublin Castle but stocks are very limited so gear up NOW. Note: Navigation equipment is not compulsory for guided participants.
Gear checks will be made at Dublin Castle. Any persons found not to be carrying mandatory kit will be asked not to continue. We appreciate your cooperation on this at is entirely for safety reasons. Also, as the roads on the route are narrow and prone to ice only event cars are permitted during the event. Once the event starts all the required support is provided by DWMRT. Any participants receiving aid from non-event vehicles will result in a DNF for the participant.
We allow the following mandatory gear items needed for the mountain section to be packed in your drop bag. This drop bag will then be available for you at Checkpoint 1 at the start of the mountain section.
